Emmeline Pankhurst, born in Moss Side in 1858, was a British political activist and leader of the British suffragette movement who helped women win the right to vote.
Artist James Chapman explains:
"There are few people in the UK with as much historical importance as Emmeline Pankhurst, campaigning tirelessly to secure the right to vote for women in the UK. With the Town Hall as a Manchester political setting, it can be sure that she’d still be campaigning for women’s rights and equality to this day."
